You know that feeling when your brain seems to be running a hundred tabs at once, your to-do list is longer than your arm, and every decision - even the small ones - feels weirdly monumental?
You’re trying to focus, but your thoughts keep jumping. You want to take action, but everything feels heavy. You’re doing all the right things, yet you still feel scattered, tense, and quietly overwhelmed.
That’s what I call the frazzled state - and if you’re an online business owner or creative, chances are you know this feeling REALLY well.
Most of us try to think our way out of it. We make more lists, drink more coffee, push harder, and tell ourselves to “just get on with it.”
But what if the solution isn’t in your head at all?
What if clarity and confidence aren’t things you need to figure out, but states your body needs to feel safe enough to access?
Welcome to somatic healing, where your nervous system becomes your secret weapon for thriving, not just surviving.
What’s Really Happening When You Feel Frazzled?
When you’re constantly juggling clients, content, income, and creative output, your nervous system can get stuck in a kind of perpetual alert mode.
It’s like having a smoke alarm that keeps going off, not because there’s an actual fire, but because it’s become oversensitive to anything that feels urgent or demanding.
Your body doesn’t distinguish between a sabre-tooth tiger and a demanding client email. It just knows something feels pressing, and it responds by keeping you on high alert.
This often shows up as:
- Racing thoughts that jump from one worry to the next.
- Physical tension, especially in the jaw, shoulders, or chest.
- Decision fatigue that makes even simple choices feel overwhelming.
- That wired-but-tired feeling where you’re exhausted but can’t truly rest.
The problem is that most traditional approaches to stress focus on managing the mind, while the real root of the issue is happening in the nervous system.
Why Somatic Healing Works Differently
Somatic healing takes a completely different approach. Instead of trying to think your way to calm, it works directly with your body to restore balance from the inside out.
Think of your nervous system like the electrical system in your house. When it’s overloaded, the lights flicker, appliances malfunction, and nothing quite works the way it should. No amount of rearranging the furniture fixes that.
Somatic practices help you reset the circuit breaker.
They work with your body’s natural ability to self-regulate, rather than forcing calm through mental effort. And that’s what makes them so powerful: your body already knows how to find balance. Somatic healing simply gives it the space and signals to do what it’s designed to do.
These aren’t complicated techniques that require years of training. They’re simple, accessible practices such as:
- Conscious breathing that signals safety to your nervous system.
- Gentle movement that releases stored tension and stress.
- Body awareness exercises that help you recognise what regulation actually feels like.
- Grounding techniques that bring you back into the present moment.
Unlocking Mental Clarity Through the Body
When your nervous system begins to regulate, something magical happens - your mind clears!
It’s like wiping a steamed-up window. Suddenly, you can see again.
Here’s why: when you’re stuck in stress mode, your brain’s resources are tied up in survival patterns. But when your body feels safe, your prefrontal cortex (the part responsible for clear thinking, creativity, and decision-making) comes back online.
From that regulated state, you may notice:
- Ideas flowing naturally instead of being forced.
- Solutions appearing that felt inaccessible before.
- Mental energy that sustains you throughout the day rather than crashing mid-afternoon.
- A clearer sense of priority, making decisions feel lighter and more obvious.
I’ve seen creatives and business owners move from scattered overwhelm to grounded, focused productivity simply by incorporating 10 minutes of somatic practice into their day.
It’s not about adding more to your plate, it’s about working with your nervous system instead of against it. orks properly, no matter how good your strategy is.
Building Confidence From the Inside Out
Confidence isn’t something you think your way into.
It’s something you feel in your body.
When your nervous system is regulated, confidence becomes your baseline rather than something you have to manufacture. You’re no longer bracing yourself against the world, which means your authentic self can come forward without effort.
From that place, you naturally trust your instincts and make decisions with more ease, show up without constantly second-guessing yourself, handle challenges with resilience instead of reactivity, and communicate your value without shrinking or over-explaning.
This happens because confidence is essentially a felt sense of safety and capability. When your body feels safe, you don’t need to armour up or perform. You can simply be.
Somatic practices help cultivate that internal safety by teaching your nervous system that it’s okay to relax, that you can handle what arises, and that you don’t need to stay “on” all the time to be successful.
Why This Matters So Much for Creatives and Online Business Owners
As a creative or online business owner, you’re not just running a business on strategy and skill, you’re running it through your nervous system.
Every client interaction passes through your internal state. Every creative decision, every moment of visibility, every launch or pivot is filtered through how safe, resourced, and grounded your body feels in that moment. Your nervous system is the unseen infrastructure underneath everything you build.
When you’re operating from a frazzled, dysregulated place, even work you love can start to feel heavy. Creative projects lose their sense of flow and begin to feel forced. Interactions that once felt energising can become draining. Procrastination creeps in not because you don’t care, but because everything feels like too much. And imposter syndrome tends to get louder, fuelled by a lack of internal grounding rather than any actual lack of capability.
But when your nervous system is regulated and supported, the entire experience of running your business shifts.
Creativity begins to flow more naturally, and you trust your instincts instead of second-guessing them. Relationships feel easier and more authentic because you’re showing up as yourself, not from a place of tension or defence. Productivity increases without force, simply because your body isn’t fighting the work. Decisions feel clearer and more aligned, as you’re able to access your intuitive wisdom alongside logic.
This isn’t about becoming someone new or fixing yourself.
It’s about becoming more of who you already are, without stress, overwhelm, or nervous system overload clouting your natural gifts.

Simple Somatic Practices You Can Start Today
You don’t need to overhaul your life to experience the benefits of somatic healing. Small, consistent practices can create meaningful change.
1. The 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Practice
You you feel scattered, pause and name:
- 5 things you can see.
- 4 things you can touch.
- 3 things you can hear.
- 2 things you can smell.
- 1 thing you can taste.
This gently brings your nervous system back into the present moment.
2. Conscious Breathing
Place one hand on your chest and one on your belly.
Inhale through your nose for a count of 4, hold for 4, and exhale through your mouth for a count of 6.
Longer exhales signal safety and activate your parasympathetic nervous system.
3. Body Scan Check-Ins
Throughout the day, pause and ask:
- Where am I holding tension?
- What does my body need right now?
Often the answer is simple - movement, water, a deep breath, or a stretch.
Consistency maters more than perfection. Even a few minutes can shift your entire state.
